Voices from Chernobyl

This film does not deal with Chernobyl, but rather with the world of Chernobyl, about which we know very little. Eyewitness reports have survived : scientists, teachers, journalists, couples, children... They tell of their old daily lives, then of the catastrophe. Their voices form a long, terrible but necessary supplication which traverses borders and stimulates us to question our status quo.

Based on the book by Svetlana Alexievich, winner of the 2015 Nobel Prize for Literature, the haunting and beautiful Voices From Chernobyl gives scientists, teachers, journalists, couples and children a chance to speak about their daily lives, which were devastated by the most unlikely of disasters.

Drawing inspiration from filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky, Cruchten takes the audience on a spiritual and poetic journey through this horror, juxtaposing their softly spoken, angerless words – which reflect on the atrocities suffered by the victims of this accident -- with images of mesmerizing aestheticism.
